What has Matthew found? Young ladybirds look different from the adults. Did you know that they eat each other? One way to keep the population down. How could they live together better in harmony?
Dr Eddy Viseux travelled up from the University of Sussex where he is a Lab. Head in the Department of Chemistry. The children enjoyed listening to a talk on Sussex University and Chemistry. We hope that Dr Viseux will come back for future sessions.
For the last session during the first half of a term, pupils have the opportunity to bring in an experiment from home. Did Emma discover a new material? There was some good thinking from the Year 5 group; thank you to Mrs Newson for her contribution towards this.
I mentioned a store in Brighton which sells some good science stuff. Here are the details:

Well done to teams Archimedes, Thomas A Edison, Einstein, Rosalind Franklin, Prof Stephen Hawking, Sir Isaac Newton and Prof Sycamore for a productive first term of the MRC Genome Science Club. Welcome to the new students this Summer Term.
Look what has been found on a walk in the holidays. Could it be a meteorite?
Well done to Millie for doing a couple of experiments at home. Here is one to try:
Take a glass and fill it three-quarters full of water.
It is best if you can put it up safely and securely onto a windowsill.
Pour in some oil. What can you see beneath the surface of the water?
Now add some salt. What happens?
Keep watching. What happens next?
Can you explain each step of your experiment?
